IMPERFORATE PROOFS & IMPERFORATE PROOF PAIRS
By definition, proofs are made so the printer can see what the stamps look like prior to the final run. Usually some official in the state must approve and sign off on the final design. The proofs are OK'd prior to the numbering process.
ARKANSAS made their proof stamps available to the public the first three years and then contracted with outside venders. There are no serial numbers on these stamps. 1981 proof stamps were issued in sheets of 30 and from 1982 to date in sheets of 10. The exception to that is the 1983 stamps which were issued only as singles. Arkansas proofs are inexpensive.
CALIFORNIA had some 1979 and 1980 stamps without serial numbers. I don't believe that these stamps were ever sold by the state. These stamps are collected either in vertical or horizontal pairs and sell for $55.00 each.
COLORADO sold some 1990 proof sheets back to the artist who in turn sold them to the public. There are no serial numbers. These stamps are collected either in vertical or horizontal pairs and sell for $300.00 per pair.
NEW MEXICO sold some 1991 and 1992 proof sheets back to the artist who in turn sold them to the public. There are no serial numbers. These stamps are collected either in vertical or horizontal pairs and sell for $195.00 per pair.
OREGON sold some 1993 and 1994 proof sheets. There are no serial numbers. The 1994 horizontal pairs sell for $175.00 each
RHODE ISLAND sold some 1991, 1992 and 1993 proof sheets back to the artist who in turn sold them to the public. There are no serial numbers. These stamps are collected either in vertical or horizontal pairs and sell for $110.00 per pair.
